The National Trust team at Calke Abbey in Derbyshire are offering an exclusive look behind closed doors on Wednesday 13th February.
Get a private behind the scenes tour and join the house team as the dust sheets come off after the winter deep clean and they prepare for season opening. See some of the specialist techniques used to conserve the vast collection.
House and Collections Manager, John Parkinson, says:
“This is a wonderful opportunity to really get behind closed doors and experience how we open up the house for a new season; ready to welcome another 100,000 pairs of feet during 2013. We’re excited to share our skills and show people what hard work really goes on to keep the house going”.
The House will re-open on Saturday 23rd February 2013 after a well deserved rest! Calke Abbey wasn’t designed as a public building so after welcoming thousands of visitors in 2012 The National Trust need time to carry out conservation work so future generations can enjoy the house and its contents.
As part of your tour enjoy a delicious 2 course lunch in the restaurant, prepared by our Calke chefs using fresh and locally produced ingredients.

House: Sat – Wed 12.30pm – 5pm -End of Era Tours Thursdays & Fridays 11am – 4pm
Garden: Daily 11am – 5pm.
Restaurant & Shop: Daily 10.30am – 5pm. Nov – Feb: 10.30am – 4pm.
Park & National Nature Reserve: Daily 7.30am – 7.30pm, dusk if earlier
