The great great grandfather of my wife was Benny Holland, a tin-smith. He made miners saftey lamps for the pits in the North Warwickshire coal fields.I have been trying for years to secure a photo of one as part of my family history.

As a boy in the 1940s I sowed some brown carlin peas in the garden. The resuting pea plants produced small pods containing green peas. My friends did not belive me when I told them because the fresh carlins were not brown. I think they must brown with maturity.

Sometimes garments had slips on them as the wire was not washable and therefore once a garment was soiled or damaged the slip was taken off and reapplied to another garment, in this case it may have been applied to a purse hence your comment
"It appears on initial inspection, that the work on this purse may not actually belong to the item originally, as the velvet has been hand stitched to the front of the purse."
I have found the following website to be a great source of information about goldwork

Her house in The BIshops' Avenue Hampstead , Towers, was donated by her to the North Middlesex Hospital. It was used by them as the maternity unit and both my sister and myself were born there in 1962 and 1960 respectively.

In Yarra Park surrounding the Melbourne Cricket Ground there is a cabman's shelter that was originally outside the Windsor Hotel in Spring St., Melbourne. It is a copy of those in London but sadly is not used at all at present.

I began volunteering in the new Arts & Crafts venue "A' The Airts" in December 2010 and have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of visitors walking or cycling through Sanquhar.
We need more photographs and information on sites such as this to promote what the town has to offer.
We hand out the Sanquhar Walk leaflet which is extremely popular.
