The Animal Victoria Cross – The Dickin Medal

To date, a select sixty-three animals have won the Dickin Medal, the highest award for animal bravery.

For the first time in one book, The Animal Victoria Cross – The Dickin Medal contains all of their inspiring stories.

Four types of animal, namely dogs, horses, pigeons and a cat, have been honoured. Simon, the feline, is credited with saving an entire ship’s crew.

Canine breeds include Alsatians, Terriers, Collies and Spaniels.

In addition to British animals, there are American, Canadian, Australian and Egyptian winners of this unique award.

The majority of Dickin Medal awards, administered by the world renowned PDSA charity, have resulted from wartime service and the conflicts include the Second World War, the Korean War and recent and current campaigns in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Other instances include the Blitz and the 9.11 attack on the Twin Towers when a dog called Rip saved many lives.

This delightful book with its inspiring tales of courage and combat will be treasured by animal lovers everywhere.

It is ideal to ‘dip’ into or read from cover to cover.
