Spanning the River Eden in the North West corner of the City of Carlisle is the Waverley or Eden Viaduct.

The Waverley or Eden Viaduct
With 6 arches the bridge is a Grade 2 listed structure. Originally a link between Carlisle and Hawick it formed a part of the Border Union Railway which came to be known as the ‘Waverley Route’. The bridge has the British Railways Board reference BRB etc 265. Upriver of the viaduct is the Willowholme Industrial Estate, the West Coast Main Line and the back of Carlisle Castle.
